CALL TO ACTION- EXPAND THE GP MILL CLEANUP
The City of Camas has a drinking water problem - its groundwater source is contaminated with Per-and Polyfluroalkyl Substances or PFAS ("forever chemicals"), a class of industrial chemicals that do not readily break down in the environment and bioaccumulate in our bodies.
The source of the PFAS has not been identified and the Washington Department of Ecology currently plans to sample groundwater from only a third of the Georgia Pacific (GP) Mill site, where PFAS was used in the paper making process. Portions of GPs property where past operations have occurred (production supply wells) are only 1,000 feet away from Camas water supply well 13. The remedial investigation process should include sampling at GPs production supply wells as a minimum to better assess the potential risk to our water supply.
We are asking Camas residents to go on record with their support for the following:
1) Expand the testing at the GP Mill site to assess the potential for drinking water contamination
2) Clean up the GP Mill site to unrestricted use for future non-industrial development
3) Designate groundwater underneath ALL GP properties as potable.
We are inviting you to this CALL TO ACTION and encourage you to join us in signing an online petition here.
