We have two ongoing projects that need your support. We encourage you to review each of these projects and if you have interest in volunteering to support one or more of these projects, simply scroll to the bottom of the page to fill out the volunteer form
PROJECT 1: Prune Hill Elementary "Living Lab" - Native Plant Naturescaping Project
Description: Camas Earth Day Society in partnership with Prune Hill Elementary is converting an unused school field into a vibrant lab for the 5th grade Earth Science classes.
Volunteers are needed to help weed, water and help teachers with outdoor classroom curriculum and activities that support students’ citizen science skills by hands-on gardening, investigation and study of the habitat in our own backyard. The project includes removing invasive weeds and planting keystone native trees and plants to restore habitat and study the wildlife and ecosystems living in our own backyard.
Engaging our youth in the mission for clean air, water and land is a foundational piece of our outreach. The photos below show the activities undertaken by the 90 fifth graders of Prune Hill Elementary (PHE) School in the 2024-25 school year to naturescape the space into a native plant garden and create an outdoor classroom to teach environmental science in a hands-on format.

We'd be remiss if we didn't include PHE's rockstar earth science teachers, Ms Rush and Ms Boden and our fabulous principal Julie Swan as well as support from the Prune Hill PTA. Their vision, support and collaboration have been instrumental to this effort and reflect how small but important local actions can make a difference not only today, but well into our future! Join in the fun or help start a similar lab at your school – we will help!
PROJECT 2: Camas Library Pollinator Demonstration Garden
Description: Camas Earth Day Society in partnership with the Camas Library hosts a pollinator garden that feeds the resident bee hive and other native bees and pollinators a gourmet buffet of flowering native plants that also serve as hosts for beneficial insects that help birds feed their chicks. The garden also serves as a demonstration garden and library of various sun-loving and shade-loving native plants carefully labeled and thriving in the right conditions to help Camas residents pick what native plants would work best in their own yards that can be picked up or delivered from Nature’s Haven, Camas’ own local native plant nursery (visit: www.natureshaven.earth)
Volunteers are needed to help weed, water and support educational awareness and outreach events led by our own Camas Bee Lady, Susan Chernak.
